EgyFarm Strengthens Its Position in the Global Garlic Market
This year’s Egyptian garlic season has kicked off stronger than it did a year before, says MR.MOHAMED FOAAD CO-founder of EGYFARM for export: “The start of the Egyptian garlic season has been rather good, especially when compared to the start of last year’s campaign. We can attribute the good start to high market prices of South African garlic. With these higher prices in mind, it makes sense that overall demand for garlic from Egypt has increased as well.”
Egypt is broadening its footprint in the Italian garlic sector with aspirations to rank among the top three exporters. As reported by EGYFARM, Egypt’s garlic exports to Italy saw growth in 2024, culminating in 1.66 thousand tons valued at over $3 million. This represents an 84% increase from the previous year and is 2.5 times the volume exported in 2022. This is the highest export figure since 2003 when exports hit 3.5 thousand tons.
Due to increased production and logistics costs, prices are higher than last year.
MR.FOAAD: “Freight rates have normalized to some extent after a few extreme years, but are still high compared to pre-pandemic levels. In addition, harvest volumes remain limited, which also contributes to the high price level.”
MR FOAAD: The price for garlic is getting lower as availability of the product grows on the market: “The garlic prices have been high initially, and have now started to decrease slightly. This decrease is the result of garlic being pumped into the market in large quantities. At this point, we’re mostly looking forward to increased sizes of the garlic. I expect demand to remain high for the rest of the season. Egyptian garlic is available with large sizes.
EgyFarm for Export continues to provide premium-quality garlic, ensuring that all products meet European specifications.
